DONNA LEE TOBIN, 79 years, of Tekamah, Nebraska, passed away Friday, October 18, 2013, at the Golden Living Center in Tekamah.
Donna Lee Tobin was born March 28, 1934, in Alliance, Nebraska with her identical twin sister, Dixie Dee, to William and Helen (Dutton) Borgaard. Donna Lee and Dixie Dee both graduated from Lincoln Central High School in 1951, and Donna Lee graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, as a Home Economics major in 1955.
On May 1, 1954, Donna Lee married Thomas G. Tobin of Tekamah. They met at the UNL while Tom studied agriculture and served in the Air Force ROTC. While Tom made a career in the Air Force as a pilot and a senior officer for 30 years, Donna Lee also served our country as an Air Force wife. She also ran her own successful antique business for 34 years.
Donna Lee made a name for herself as an accomplished golfer, artist, and cook, but her real claim to fame was her incredible skill as a wife and mother. She was largely responsible for her husband's rise to the rank of Brigadier General and her son, Toby's and daughter, Leslie's successful teaching careers. None of them could have reached their potential without her incredible love, support, and apple pie.
Donna Lee Tobin moved 36 times throughout the United States and Europe with her husband, Tom until they settled back in her husband's hometown of Tekamah. She lived there until the horrible Alzheimer's Disease took her life on October 18, 2013.
Donna Lee was preceded in death by her twin sister, Dixie Dee and her older sister, Mary Ann Bailey. She waits in heaven to someday reunite with her husband, Tom; her son, Thomas G. Tobin II, his wife, another Donna Lee, and their 3 children, Caitlin, Rachel and Joseph; her daughter, Leslie T Birney, her husband, Thomas Birney, and their two sons, Tobin and Hogan.
