Nekrolog: LaVern E. Thomsen, 74, of Grand Island, passed away, Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at his home. A Memorial Service will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home Chapel. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. LaVern was born on April 1, 1942 to Neils and Lillian (Schmaljohn) Thomsen on the Thomsen family farm 3 miles south of Rockville, NE. He was united in marriage to Joyce Reimers on June 25, 1966 in Grand Island. After the couple lived in Grand Island for most of their lives. He enjoyed stock car racing, flying planes, hunting with his four boys and spending time outdoors. He is survived by his four sons and three daughters-in-law, Cody Thomsen of Grand Island, Cory and Lori Thomsen of Lincoln, Lanny and Teresa Thomsen of Grand Island and Lucas and Amy Thomsen of Callaway, NE. Additional survivors include six grandchildren, Marc Plummer, Keenen Thomsen, Kylie Thomsen, Brook Thomsen, Natalie Thomsen and Lane Thomsen; a sister, Marian Dethlefs, and a sister-in-law, Jean Thomsen. LaVern was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce in 2008; and his brothers, Kenneth and Wayne.
