Susan M. Pond, 62, departed her family and friends at her home in Yuma, AZ on Wednesday, February 11, 2015. She will be remembered as a hard-working mother, educator, and volunteer with that beautiful silver hair. Susan was born December 1952 in Alliance, Nebraska, graduated from St. John's College (Winfield, KS) and attended Concordia University (Seward, NE) before moving to Yuma, AZ in 1974 as a Church Worker. In Yuma, she married, raised a family and continued her education receiving her degree in early childhood education from Northern Arizona University. She was first a teacher and then preschool/special education Coordinator for Yuma Elementary School District One. Susan was an active volunteer in Girl Scouts and church group activities.
Susan is survived by her husband, David Pond of Yuma; daughter, Stephanie (Sergei) Pond of San Diego, CA; sons, Andrew (Rae-Landa) Pond of York, NE and Kevin (Clarissa) Pond of Yuma, AZ; grandchildren, Rosaline, Gavin, Andersen, Vera, and one on the way; brother, Steven (Vicky) Boyer of Dayton, WY; and sister, Kathryn (Dave) Ramsey of Thermopolis, WY.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Louise Boyer; step-mother, Sue Boyer; and brother, Bill Boyer.
A funeral service will be held in her honor at First Presbyterian Church, 598 S. 7th Avenue on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to Hospice of Yuma. Arrangements are being handled by Johnson Mortuary, 1415 S. First Avenue, Yuma, AZ 85364.
