Joel Kent Miller of East Grand Forks, MN entered into heaven's gates and into the arms of our Savior Jesus Christ on Monday evening, February 27, 2023 at his rural East Grand Forks, MN home.
He was born the 4th of 6 children on April 20, 1954 at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, MN to the late Vernon and Margaret Miller of rural Erhard, MN. Joe was baptized and confirmed at Tonseth Lutheran Church, rural Erhard which he attended his entire youth.
Joe attended country school and then Pelican Rapids Schools where he graduated in 1972. He attended the University of Minnesota, Crookston graduating with an A.A. After college he moved to East Grand Forks, MN and on September 25, 1976 married Carrie Rosenberg. They were married for almost 47 years.
Joe worked at Williams Pipeline (Magellan Midstream Partners) most of his adult life. He retired from the pipeline in 2010 because of back problems and other health issues. They owned the North Fifth Dairy Queen of which he was very involved.
They attended Cottonwood Church but in later years as his health declined they enjoyed watching Christian Worship Hour with Pastor Harold Salem together.
No one loved fishing, hunting and the outdoors more than Joel. Anytime he was fishing or out on the lake, his heart was full. Joel was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved his family with everything he had. He looked forward to visits from his children and grandkids and instilled in them a love for God and the outdoors.
Joe and Carrie had two daughters, Christine Elizabeth and Jenny Linea. Joe spent much time before his health declined fishing and enjoying their lake cabin on Kempfer Lake. His children and grandchildren also enjoyed the lake place so much and spent a lot of time there as well.
Carrie, the love of Joe's life, spent the last few years being his care-giver. She did not leave his side for very long and he so appreciated her attention and love in taking care of his every need.
Joel was preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Margaret Miller, his in-laws Hersh and Gladys Rosenberg and brother-in-law Earl Heen and nephew Jason Strickland plus many beloved cousins and many dear friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carrie; daughters, Christine (Chris) Holt of Northfield, MN and Jenny Liggett of East Grand Forks, MN; 10 grandchildren, Noah, Avery, Elijah, Evelyn and Ezekiel Holt, Andrea Peltier, Amanda, Elly, Paul and Lynneah Liggett; 2 great-grandchildren, Maverick Holt-Hermel and Zyra Burns; 2 sisters, Elizabeth Miller of Fergus Falls and Helen Heen of Grand Forks; 3 brothers, Bard (Lorrie) Miller of Pelican Rapids, Byron (Carrie) Miller of rural Erhard and Robb (Brenda) Miller of Pelican Rapids; brother-in-law, Leonard (Katie) Rosenberg of Hamel, MN; plus many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
