John "Kent" Borgaard, of Las Vegas, passed away Feb. 22, 2015. J. Kent Borgaard was born Feb. 11, 1929, to Ray and Ethyl Borgaard. Surviving him in life are his wife, Mary G. Borgaard; and his brother, Weldon Borgaard of Cheyenne, Wyo. Kent married Mary (nee Goodson) Borgaard in 1950 and together they raised four children, Barbara Strahl (Al), Boni Moretti (Robert), Jay Borgaard and Dave Borgaard (Kristie). He also has 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Kent served in the Korean War in the U.S. Navy on the USS Boxer and the USS Princeton. He worked many different jobs providing for his family as he attended the seminary to become a pastor as his father had been. Through the years, his pastoral services took him to Pleasantville, Iowa, Sioux Falls, S.D., Des Moines, Iowa, Elkhart, Ind., and Las Vegas. He was an avid writer and published two books. He counseled married couples through his work at Oaklawn Center in Indiana in his "Recovery of Hope" program. He helped people through AA and addictions. He was the ear that everyone and anyone could bend and he'd listen intently. Kent was a man of little needs, a good sunset, a glass of wine with friends and he was content. He often said, "leave the world a better place than you found it and the rest will work itsellf out." He was the messenger of hope and joy. He will always be pictured by his family rising from his bed in the dark because the words in his mind had finally put themselves together, in a way that had danced ahead of his consciousness during the waking hours. Careful not to disturb the household, he fumbled in the twilight for his glasses and tiptoed to his office to write it all down. His words were always eloquent and flowed through him to his writings that he loved to share with the world. He was the "bridge over troubled" water to everyone he ever knew Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 1, at First Christian Church, 101 S. Rancho Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89106. MARYBELLE BORGAARD Marybelle Goodson Borgaard passed away May 30, 2017.
Marybelle was born March 12, 1930, to Floyd and Fleeta Goodson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Kent Borgaard; and her brother, Robert Goodson of Virginia.
Mary was married to J. Kent Borgaard in 1950 and together they raised four children.
Barbara Strahl (Al), Boni Moretti (Robert), Jay Borgaard and Dave Borgaard (Kristie).
She also has 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Throughout Mary's career, she worked as a licensed practical nurse, registered nurse, hospital administrator and health inspector.
Through the years, she and J. Kent lived in Bremerton and Spokane, Wash., Long Beach and Fresno, Calif., Dallas, Texas, Pleasantville, Iowa, Sioux Falls, S.D., Des Moines, Iowa, Elkhart, Ind., and Las Vegas.
Mary's forte in life was to figure out and road map "how to get it accomplished."
She excelled in the organization of any situation and could always solve a problem, be it personal or work related.
She was an avid collector of antique Hall's tea pots.
She loved the simple things in life such as travel, visiting with friends and family and talking about her grandchildren as well as convincing others that her dog, TC, was in fact a genius and understood every conversation that he was part of.
