Michael Peter Sonnenberg

Michael P. Sonnenberg passed away unexpectedly at the age of 77 on January 30, 2022 in Milwaukee. He was born January 17,1945 in Venice Florida to Raymond and Perle Sonnenberg who proceeded him in death.
He is survived by his wife Susan, brother Tom (Katie), sister Patti, niece Amy, brother in laws Jim Doyle (Mary Cele), Tom Doyle (Jan) and many Doyle nieces and nephews. Special thanks to John Honkamp and Mike Sherman for their many years of friendship to Mike.
Mike grew up in Shorewood, WI and attended St. Robert's Grade School and Marquette University High School. Mike was a four-time letter winner in football and track at Marquette High. He earned First Team All-State honors in football. Senior year he was named Honorable Mention All-American. In 1996, Mike was inducted into MUHS's Athletic Hall of Fame.
He went on to play football at the University of Wisconsin where he completed his undergraduate degree and master's degree in education. Upon graduation he taught and coached at Riverside High School eventually becoming assistant principal at Custer High School and then principal at Pulaski High School. He was a devoted educator who worked tirelessly to provide an excellent education in a safe and caring learning environment. At the time of his retirement, he was working in administrative leadership for MPS.
Fishing and hunting became Mike's passions in retirement. He kept a detailed journal of every fishing trip he went on. He knew every lake in Boulder Junction, WI inside and out. Becoming sought out for his knowledge by his fellow fishermen.
