Bonnie M. Flagg, age 81, a long-time resident of Skagit Valley, passed away in Mount Vernon on Saturday, November 3, 2012.
She was born in Sioux City, Iowa on August 6, 1931 to Nels and Rose (Christensen) Nelson.
She moved with her parents to west Mount Vernon in 1937, where she has resided since. She attended Mount Vernon Schools.
She married Kenneth Flagg in 1949, and they had four children.
Bonnie worked in the retail business at various stores for several years. She also worked at Stokely Van Camp Cannery for many years. She and her husband Ken owned and operated the "Flagg's Variety" store in west Mount Vernon for 2 1/2 years. She retired in 1990.
Bonnie loved flowers and spent a lot of time working in her large yard. Her family was so special to her, and she loved spending time with her four children, four granddaughters and four great grandsons. She also loved spending time having music parties with all of her and Ken's dear friends.
Bonnie is survived by her husband, Ken, daughter Sharon Bumgarner, son Randy Flagg (Teresa), son Mike Flagg, all of Mount Vernon, daughter Julie Newman (Phil) of Burlington, four granddaughters, Kelly vanValey (Brian), Jenna Flagg, Ashley Troha-Ibarra (Behr), Alicia Troha (Kjel), great grandsons Angus, Finley and Baylor vanValey and Rio Ibarra-Troha, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two stepmothers Edna and Ella Nelson, four brothers Bud, Ray, Bob and Chuck Nelson, one sister Clara Taylor, brother-in-law William Taylor, nephews Billy Nelson, Larry Nelson, Wallace Elliott, Ron Howerton, Ryan Creedon, and great grandparents and many aunts and uncles.

Kenneth M. Flagg, age 86, a long-time resident of Skagit Valley, passed away in Mount Vernon on Friday, April 12, 2013.
He was born in 1927 in Bellingham, moving to Mount Vernon with his parents Phil and Emma Flagg when he was a small child.
He attended Mount Vernon schools.
He joined the Navy in August of 1944 and was sent to the South Pacific and boarded the destroyer U.S.S. John W. Weeks D.D. 701 during World War II. He was discharged in December of 1948 with the rate of machinist mate.
He married Bonnie Nelson in 1949, and they had four children.
He held various jobs throughout his lifetime. He worked on many farms in the valley, worked at the Skagit Valley Co-op located in Westside Mount Vernon, owned and operated the Flagg's Variety Grocery Store in Westside Mount Vernon, he co-owned a construction company and built houses throughout the valley, and then joined the Carpenters Local 70 Union where he worked for 35 years on many construction jobs for local contractors, some of which include building the Semi-ahmoo Resort in Blaine and the Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood and building houses throughout the valley. He worked on the dams upriver, worked heavy construction on I-5 Freeway projects, worked at the construction of the Boeing facility in Everett, and many other projects throughout his career. He retired in 1990.
With his excellent carpentry skills, he made many beautiful things throughout his lifetime for his family members.
One of his passions was writing songs. He taught himself how to play the guitar and spent many wonderful times playing the guitar and singing his songs with his family and having music parties with his and Bonnie's many dear friends.
He loved to hunt and fish, and when he was young he caught many big king salmon from the Skagit River. He loved growing his garden and especially loved growing lots of tomatoes. With his life long wonderful sense of humor he kept his family and friends laughing, and he had three jokes accepted by the show "Laugh-In".
His family was so special to him, and he loved spending time with his four children, four granddaughters, and four great-grandsons.
Ken is survived by his daughter Sharon Bumgarner, son Randy Flagg (Teresa), son Mike Flagg, all of Mount Vernon, daughter Julie Newman (Phil) of Burlington, four granddaughters, Kelly vanValey (Brian), Jenna Flagg, Ashley Troha-Ibarra (Behr), Alicia Troha (Kjel), great grandsons Angus, Finley and Baylor vanValey and Rio Troha-Ibarra, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie Flagg, his parents Emma and Philip Flagg, his sister Bette Wotherspoon, his brother Phil Flagg, brother-in-law James Wotherspoon, niece Dorothy Flagg, nephew Phil Flagg, his great grandparents, and many aunts and uncles.
He was also preceded in death by the following from his wife Bonnie's family - Nels and Rose Nelson, Edna Nelson, Ella Nelson, Bud Nelson, Ray Nelson, Bob Nelson, Chuck Nelson, Juanita Nelson, Clara Taylor, William Taylor, Billy Nelson, Larry Nelson, Wallace Elliott, Ron Howerton and Ryan Creedon.
