J. Chris Nielsen, 74
J. Chris Nielsen, 74, a potato farmer in the Alliance area since 1919, died unexpectedly friday night on the farm. He was on his tractor in the field and was found by his son, Jack, when he didn't report home.
He was born May 11, 1907 in Denton and came to the Alliance area in 1918. He retired in 1974 and continued his interrest in the potato industry. He was a member of the Nebrasks Certified Potato Growers, the Potato Certification Association and was on the board of directors.
He married the former Edna Morehead on March 16, 1933 in Alliance and she survives at the home on RR 1.
Survivors in addition to his widow and son and daughter, Mrs. Robert Dahlgren of St. Louis, Me.; five grandchildren, Russell and Marie Dahlgren, both of St. Louis and Chrissi, Beth and Sara Nielsen, all of Alliance; and four sisters, Esther Von-Bargen og Hemingford, Edith Smith af Alliance, Gladys Solberg af Longmont, Colo., and Mary Donovan og Ogallala.

Alliance - Edna Gertrude Nielsen, a long time area resident, died Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Highland Park Care center. She was 88.
She was born March 23. 1912, near cairo, Neb., to Elmer and Olga (Meier) Morehead.
When she was six, she moved to the Angora area along with her parents, her grandmother Louise Mejer, and her younger brothers George and Roy.
She married Chris Nielsen of Alliance on March 16. 1933 at Alliance.
She was a Doe and a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Her survivors include her son Jack Nielsen and his family of Alliance; her daughter Mary Louise Dahlgren of Fort Collins, Co.; brother Elmer David Morehead, Jr., "Corky" of Polson, Montana; five grandchildren, Chris Collins of Alliance; Beth Nielsen of Dallas, Texas; Sara Nielsen of Denver, Colo.; Russel dahlgren of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and Marc Toler of Greeley, Colorado; and three great-grandchildren, Katherine and Geoffrey Toler and Cameron Collins will miss her. Her sisters-in-law, Esther Von Bargen of Hemingford and Alliance. Edith Smith of Alliance and Gladys Solberg of Loveland, Colorado survive her. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, George, Roy, and Vern Morehead, and by her sisters, Rose Mary Valerio and Dorothy Schultz.
